"O'er the Land of the Free... Except, and Except, and Except...."

This image speaks very adequately on the way that our country actually runs. We're as the GREAT country of Freedom, Liberty and JUSTICE for ALL... EXCEPT... Muslims, gays, immigrants, african americans, native americans, and women. There's probably a few other minority groups to add to the list, but you get the idea. There seems to always be exceptions to our countries so called morales and constitutional rights. Since the writing of the Star Spangled Banner in 1814 our country has seen dis-liberties and un-justices committed against its peoples over and over and over. Whether it be the time of suffrage, and the need of voting rights for women, and equal pay in the workforce. Or in the form of racism and segregation of african americans in the south. More presently the equal rights of those of the LGBT community to marry. Or the right to religious freedom and the growing muslim population of this country. Freedom to the people! except, Except, ExCepT... EXCEPT FOR. NO! We need to work harder to put a permanent stop on these outdated, bigoted, unjust exceptions.

"The First Ladies"

Throughout time the role of the wife has been ever evolving and though the ideal image of the wife has stayed the same, there have always been exceptions to the rules. Even in the times of the earliest First Ladies, whether society knew it or not, the role of the wife was not limited to being a good hostess, and making their husbands look good. Often they would take on the role of head of the house, and oversee finances, property, and other traditionally "Husband" duties while their husbands rand the country. So it's not a surprise that in todays society that more and more we see this switch in the gender roles within a marriage. Really they've been slowly changing over the past 200 years. Eventually we just might continue to evolve and do away with the "traditional" roles altogether.
